If you’re loved one is dying from substance abuse, STOP all “rescue missions!” Family members often try to protect or to ’save’ the addict from the results of their behavior by making excuses to others about their abuse problem and by getting them out of drug-related jams. It is important to stop all such rescue attempts immediately, so that the addict will fully experience the harmful effects of his or her use and thereby become more motivated to stop and enter a drug treatment center. Do not pay their bills, do not bail them out of jail, do not pay their rent etc. Sometimes family members feel sorry for the addicted individual or tend to avoid the drug abuse; let them come and go as they please. This comes across to the substance abuser as a reward—after all, all the addict wants is to be left alone. Be careful not to reward by paying his bills, bailing him out of jail, letting him stay for free or letting him stay period etc. This kind of reward creates an out of exchange with the addict and increases criminal behavior. Tough love is the best way to get your loved one into drug treatment.

Choosing the correct drug abuse treatment approach is often a very confusing, difficult and an important endeavor. It is important to be well informed in order to choose the luxury residential drug abuse treatment center for you. Especially in Malibu, CA, each substance abuse treatment facility is unique in it’s approach to recovery. Take note of what is important to you, and make decisions based on your personal necessities. Keep in mind that there are a multitude of treatment approaches to choose from: outpatient, inpatient, 12-step, group therapy, and the list goes on.

An individual can become thoroughly confused by asking a half-dozen recovering alcoholics or drug addicts how they ended their use of alcohol or drugs; the answers vary although each of them may seem convincing and emotional. They will cite such diverse approaches as hospitalization, diet, exercise, counseling, sauna’s, religion, hypnosis, amino acids and self-help groups. When it comes to successful treatment, only one thing is certain: practically any approach will work for some of the people, some of the time. To put it another way, successful treatment is like a designer suit- it’s got to be tailor-made for each individual.

Drug addiction treatment centers are addiction treatment facilities designed to help alcoholics and drug addicts heal physically, mentally and spiritually, and rediscover themselves in a drug and alcohol-free environment. The safe, comfortable and drug-free settings of various drug addiction treatment programs serve as tranquil and even spa-like surroundings for addicts and alcoholics to rehabilitate themselves. The successful effects of an addiction treatment center is real, and these treatment centers save lives every day. With the growing demand for addiction treatment, several niche centers and alternative means of treatment have arisen to ensure adequate drug treatment centers and programs are available for all kinds of addictions, mental health disorders, and individual needs. While the main kinds of treatment programs available are still outpatient, residential short-term and residential long-term, the philosophies of drug treatment have spread far beyond the 12-step program. Not every addict responds positively to the 12-steps, especially those who have been in treatment multiple times. Drug addiction and alcohol abuse are life threatening diseases and loved ones are generally not willing to give up hope if the first attempt at treatment proves to be unsuccessful. For this reason, alternative treatment centers and philosophies have become more popular.

How important are private drug and alcohol rehabs? The latest government research suggests that upwards of twenty million Americans exhibit symptoms of unhealthy dependence on habit-forming substances. That’s a staggering statistic, one that speaks in no uncertain terms to the central role of drug and alcohol rehab in shaping the future of the country. Addicts don’t get better outside of addiction treatment centers. Substance abuse is a disease, after all, one that can only be eradicated with professional substance abuse treatment. If you’re going to get better, in other words, you’re going to have to get help. And the good news is that drug and alcohol rehabs can make a world of difference in the lives of their patients.

The day you check into an exclusive rehab center will quite literally be the first day of the rest of your life. Addiction is a devastating disease. Drug and alcohol rehabs can repair the damage. The only catch, obviously, is that you have to give rehab a chance. Rehabilitation and recovery can’t start until you find the courage to take the first step. With so much to lose, and so much more to win, you can’t afford to wait another day.
